At Belu, we’re committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone to thrive. That’s why we’re very happy to be ranked in the UK’s Great Place to Work ‘Best Workplaces for Women’ list at no.10 in the small business category!
How are the rankings decided?
All of our team members responded to an anonymous survey of over 60 questions, supplied by Great Place to Work. 85% of the ranking is based on women’s responses about their workplace – and how they compare to men’s reports of the same workplace. Great Place to Work analyses the experiences of women at all levels of the workforce and also considers their daily experiences relating to innovation, company values and effectiveness of leadership. The remaining 15% of the ranking is based on how well represented women are throughout management within the business.
If you can see it, you can be it
Our leadership team certainly demonstrates Belu’s dedication to gender equity, with both of our Co-CEOs Natalie and Charlotte being female and 3 out of 4 senior leaders being female too.
In March 2020, Natalie was appointed CEO of Belu and then a few months later she invited Charlotte to join her as Co-CEO so they could pool their expertise and create a model to inspire others in doing business differently.
The approach was a reflection of Ann Friedman’s ‘shine theory’, first introduced in her article: ‘Why powerful women make the greatest friends’ which encourages women to celebrate others success rather than feeling threatened and to support other successful women in their achievements – collaborating with them, rather than competing against them.
All of our team members have flexible hours and remote work options. This helps our people, in particular working parents, guardians, carers, or anyone going through a significant life transition, balance life with work – and do better at both as a result.
Each of our teams include women, from our Brand team to Operations to Business Development, to our Customer Relations team and our new Field Operations team who work on site at workplaces, restaurants, hotels and other venues to install and maintain our Belu filtration machines.
Onwards and upwards, together
Being ranked 10th in the Best Workplaces for Women list is a big deal for us and acknowledges our efforts to champion equity, diversity and inclusion. It makes good business sense! We’ll continue with that – and keep on celebrating the uniqueness of everyone in Team Belu.
